Commonly used martensitic stainless steel



              Martensitic stainless steel is based on 12~18% chromium. The carbon content is adjusted according to needs, usually 0.1~0.4%. It is hard in texture. Its mechanical properties can be adjusted through heat treatment. It has good hardenability, magnetism and quenching Good corrosion resistance, thermal strength and cold deformation properties. 

             Typical grades of martensitic stainless steel are 1Cr13, 2Cr13, 3Cr13, 4Cr13, 420u6, 5Cr15Mov, and 6Cr13 etc. It has high hardness after quenching and has different strength and toughness combinations at different tempering temperatures. It is widely used in steam turbine blades, tableware, surgical instruments, shipbuilding, industry and other industries.

1Cr13


     1Cr13 is a martensitic stainless steel grade with a chemical composition that includes around 13% chromium and a relatively low carbon content of about 0.15%. This grade is known for its moderate corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties, making it suitable for applications such as steam turbine blades, bolts, and valves. Its balance of properties also makes it an excellent choice for general-purpose use in environments where both strength and corrosion resistance are required.


2Cr13


     2Cr13 is another popular martensitic stainless steel, often used in the manufacturing of surgical instruments and cutlery. It has a slightly higher carbon content compared to 1Cr13, typically around 0.16-0.25%, which enhances its hardness and wear resistance. The chromium content remains around 13%, providing adequate corrosion resistance for most applications. This balance makes 2Cr13 ideal for applications that require a sharp edge and durability.


3Cr13


     3Cr13 stainless steel is widely used in the production of knives, scissors, and medical tools due to its excellent hardness and corrosion resistance. It contains about 0.26-0.35% carbon and 12-14% chromium, offering a higher hardness level than 1Cr13 and 2Cr13. Its robust properties make it a preferred material for tools and instruments that need to maintain a sharp edge under demanding conditions.

4Cr13


     4Cr13 stainless steel has a higher carbon content, typically ranging from 0.35-0.45%, which significantly increases its hardness and strength. The chromium content remains consistent at around 12-14%. This steel is commonly used in the production of high-quality cutlery, surgical instruments, and other applications where high hardness and moderate corrosion resistance are essential. Its enhanced mechanical properties make it suitable for components subjected to high wear and stress.


420u6


     420u6 is a variant of the 420 stainless steel family, known for its good corrosion resistance and high polishability. It contains about 0.15-0.40% carbon and 12-14% chromium. This grade is often used in the manufacturing of dental and surgical instruments, cutlery, and precision instruments that require a high degree of finish and cleanliness. Its versatility and aesthetic appeal make it a popular choice in both industrial and consumer applications.

5Cr15Mov


     5Cr15Mov is a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel that includes molybdenum and vanadium in its composition. Typically, it contains around 0.5% carbon, 15% chromium, 0.5% molybdenum, and trace amounts of vanadium. This combination provides excellent hardness, corrosion resistance, and edge retention, making it a popular choice for high-quality kitchen knives and professional cutlery. The addition of molybdenum enhances its pitting resistance, while vanadium improves its wear resistance and toughness.


6Cr13


     6Cr13 is a martensitic stainless steel known for its high strength and moderate corrosion resistance. It contains about 0.6% carbon and 13% chromium. This grade is used in the production of cutting tools, surgical instruments, and other applications where high hardness and edge retention are critical. Its balanced properties make it suitable for a wide range of demanding environments, from industrial to medical applications.
